CHICAGO, IL — September–October 2026 — Gallery Guichard, in partnership with The Field Museum, the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, the Garfield Park Conservatory, and the South Shore Cultural Center, proudly presents Soul of the Stone, an eight-month cultural and artistic experience celebrating the rich tradition of Zimbabwean Shona stone sculpture.
John Chewa is a contemporary Shona sculptor from Zimbabwe known for his hand-carved stone art, featuring smooth abstract forms, family life, and wildlife. His works are crafted from indigenous stones like serpentine and leopard stone, showcasing a balance between raw, unpolished textures and sleek, glossy surfaces.
