SOUL OF THE STONE: A Living Sculpture Journey from Zimbabwe to Chicago
CHICAGO, IL — September–October 2026 — Gallery Guichard, in partnership with The Field Museum, the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, the Garfield Park Conservatory, and the South Shore Cultural Center, proudly presents Soul of the Stone, an eight-month cultural and artistic experience celebrating the rich tradition of Zimbabwean Shona stone sculpture.
Clever Monera (born 1978 in Zvimba, Zimbabwe) is a contemporary Shona stone sculptor known for expressive, figurative works depicting human relationships, motion, and joyful family life. Trained by Fabian Madamombe and mentored by master sculptor Dominic Benhura, he carves primarily in hard stones like springstone.
