Formidable Force is about a legacy passed down to us from our ancestors. The young man runs the race and carries the baton for all past and future generations. On his back is the continent of Africa, collaged with images of people and events placed in chronological order from bottom to top, from slavery to modern day times, respectively. The background of the painting has the word “AMEN” which means “So be it”, these are the whispers of the ancestors pushing him forward. The butterfly symbolizes new beginnings and endurance.
